CeMAP Frequently Asked Questions

CeMAP stands for the Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice. The current qualification is awarded by LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London.

There are three compulsory modules containing five compulsory units: CeMAP 1 has FRE1 and FRE2, CeMAP 2 has MRT1 and MRT2, and CeMAP 3 has the ASEW/ASSC synoptic assessment.

No for new learners. LIBF replaced UKFR with FSRE under the new CeMAP structure. The final date for the remaining legacy UKFR learners to sit that qualification was 16 July 2026. This website uses FRE1 and FRE2 as the current CeMAP 1 units.

The pass mark is 70% for every current unit: 28/40 for FRE1, 28/40 for FRE2, 35/50 for MRT1, 28/40 for MRT2 and 42/60 for ASEW/ASSC.

Yes. Under the current structure, the two units within CeMAP 1 and the two units within CeMAP 2 can be taken separately. Official assessments are delivered online through LIBF's Brightspace platform with remote invigilation.

Yes. CeMAP 3 is compulsory for the full CeMAP qualification. It applies knowledge from the earlier modules to customer case studies and includes additional mortgage-protection content.

LIBF states that there are no formal entry requirements, although learners need to be able to study in English at the required level.

LIBF currently provides 18 months when the full qualification is registered together, or 12 months for each module registered separately. Check the current provider terms before registering.

CeMAP is an appropriate qualification for regulated mortgage-advice activity, but qualification and authorisation or workplace competence are separate matters. A person must operate through the relevant regulated arrangements and meet their firm's training and competence requirements before advising without supervision.
